NPCA is Now Accepting Entries for the 2008 Safety Awards
NPCA invites all members to offer submissions for its 2008 Safety Awards Program. NPCA’s Safety Awards Program recognizes outstanding achievements in plant safety performance. NPCA will only accept entries via its web-based electronic entry form, which may be accessed at http://www.paint.org/member/safety/. For those members who would like to use a paper copy of the questionnaire to gather data before entering it electronically, that form is also available online.
Award recipients will receive certificates for their achievements and will be recognized in the November/December issue of Coatings.
The purpose of the program goes beyond recognizing superior safety performance; it also enables the collection of valuable data. This information on industry safety is useful to member companies in assessing the effectiveness of their safety programs as compared to others in the industry. NPCA operates the program in the hopes that is will provide information that can be utilized by the association and its members to promote our industry commitments to work-place safety with various government agencies.
Please note that all applicants must provide the Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) Code for each facility, allowing NPCA to file the data in comparable groupings. Additionally, if your facility has already converted to the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) these codes may also be used in the space provided.
The awards will be presented for safety performance on a plant’s eligibility; please enter your site data electronically at our web site no later than August 31, 2008. For all companies submitting safety data for facilities located outside the United States, please be sure to identify them in the appropriate space on the electronic form. There are four categories of Safety Awards:
Awards of Excellence: given to the member location in various-sized categories that establishes zero death and total lost work day cases involving days away from work and/or restricted work activities for the subject five-year period. More than one location in each size category may qualify for this award. A location that receives the Award of Excellence will not be considered for any other subsequent award.
Award of Honor: given to the member location in various-sized categories that establishes the lowest rate of death and total lost workday cases involving days away-from-work and/or restricted work activities per total employee hours worked for the latest calendar year reported. More than one location in each size category may qualify for this award. A location that receives the Award of Honor will not be considered for any other subsequent award.
Award of Commendation: given to the member location in various sized categories that establishes the lowest rate of death and days away from work cases for the latest calendar year reported. More than one location in each size category may qualify for this award. A location that receives the Award of Commendation will not be considered for any subsequent award.
Awards of Merit: given to the member location in each size category for the greatest improvement shown in its safety record for the reporting year as compared to the base year. The current base year will be the year of the most recent injury/illness experience. The last base year will be the average of the three years prior to the year upon which the safety award is based. The rates calculated for the Award of Honor will be the criteria for determining the percent improvement for the Award of Merit..
