PPG has announced the completion of COLORFUL COMMUNITIES® projects at three locations: Bodindecha (Sing Singhaseni), Samutprakarn School in Samutprakarn, Thailand; Dr. Konrad Middle School in Klingenberg am Main, Germany; and the Clean Up – Give Back headquarters and community center in Des Plaines, IL.
The project in Thailand involved 52 volunteers who spent 156 hours improving the school’s sports ground with epoxy paint. PPG also donated sports equipment and sports kits to the students.
“This great activity benefits everyone in the school, especially our students. It is our goal to make them healthy, and this is easier now the school sports ground is bright and attractive,” said Chalin Silapasomsakdi, headteacher of the school.
In Klingenberg am Main, Germany, 90 volunteers spent 1,900 hours working on decorating an underpass leading to the middle school and renovating the schoolyard. Volunteers painted the walls and the floor of the underpass with an underwater world mural designed in cooperation with a local artists’ group using paint donated by PPG. They also painted concrete blocks in the schoolyard for pupils to sit on.
“We had a great team to make this project happen within three days and I am proud of the amazing result we have created together. It was a fantastic experience to see the hidden talents of colleagues come to the surface. We had a lot of fun during these three days of teamwork,” said Carolin Volk, PPG executive assistant, who was one of the project leaders.
Thirty volunteers from PPG and Ardagh Metal Packaging joined to paint the Des Plaines, IL, headquarters and community center of Clean Up – Give Back, a nonprofit that organizes trash cleanups in Illinois. In 2021, the organization picked up 41,000 pounds of trash. The volunteers repainted the facility’s interior walls and cabinetry and a mural with paint donated by PPG.
“We appreciate PPG and Ardagh Metal Packaging volunteering their time and resources to make our workspace beautiful,” said Donna Adam, founder of Clean Up – Give Back. “It will inspire us to continue our work to clean up and beautify our communities.”
PPG’s Colorful Communities program provides various communities with volunteers, materials, and funding to help enhance their surroundings. According to the company, more than 400 Colorful Communities projects have been completed since 2015.
