Penn Color Dispersions

Penn Color, supplier of colors, additives, and compounds headquartered in Hatfield, PA, will be at the upcoming ECS to present their range of dispersions, which is composed of those that are water-based, solventborne, or energy-curable.

According to the company, their water-based dispersions have low to no VOCs and high pigment loading properties and are APEO- and binder-free. The solvent-based dispersions are broadly compatible with acrylic resin systems and have high pigment-loading and optimal rheological properties. The energy-curable dispersions are for 100% solids and multiple oligomers, require low curing energy, and are broadly compatible with various systems.

Clariant Halogen-Free Flame Retardants

Clariant plans to showcase three product lines focused on sustainability at ECS: Ceridust® additives, EcoTain® (which includes Exolit® AP 435 and Exolit AP 418, and VITA, which includes polyglycols (PEGs) and ethylene oxide derivatives.

Clariant’s Ceridust® additives are made to enable scratch-resistant protection for packaging barrier coatings with a good slip-effect and rub-resistant printing inks. The company says these additives are free of PTFEs and include polyethylene waxes and a biobased wax.

Two products that Clariant plans to feature are from its EcoTain® sustainability line. Exolit® AP 435 is intended to prolong the shelf life of finished products during storage and transportation, and Exolit AP 418 is designed for efficiency, thus reducing the industry’s material use. The latter product, according to Clariant, can achieve up to 10% longer fire-resistant time for a film applied at up to 25% less thickness than what is typical.

The VITA range includes polyglycols (PEGs) and ethylene oxide derivatives for use as surfactants and intermediates in paint and coatings production. The company states that VITA products are 100% based on plant-based carbon via bioethanol. These new ingredients are chemically equivalent to their fossil-based analogs and therefore offer the same performance and efficiency to formulators and brand owners, according to Clariant.

Clariant will be at Booth 322 in Hall 3A.

Heubach Coil, Green, and UV Pigments

The Heubach Group, a German-based manufacturer of organic and inorganic pigments and preparations, will unveil several new pigments at ECS: Heucosil™ CSA and CSM, Heucodur® Green 630, and Hostatint™ UV 100.

Heucosil™ CSA and CSM are zinc-free anti-corrosive pigments that the company says meet the performance requirements for coil- and thin-film applications. These products are designed for corrosion protection performance and low oil absorption.

Heucodur® Green 630 is a new non-labeled spinel green pigment based on a chrome-free composition, and Hostatint™ UV 100 is a reformulated range of pigment preparations for radiation-cured wood coatings.

Vencorex Crosslinkers, Hardeners, and Isocyanate Monomers

Vencorex, a producer of aliphatic isocyanates and their derivatives, will unveil several products at ECS: Easaqua™, Tolonate™, and HDI and IPDI isocyanate monomers.

Easaqua™ crosslinkers are designed for 2K waterborne polyurethanes as they are easy to mix in water. Vencorex says that products in this line can be used with matte and high-gloss primers and finishes, and some have fast-drying properties.

Tolonate™ are reference polyisocyanate hardeners of high-performance polyurethane coatings and adhesives. The company says that they enable good durability and extended service life. The range includes low-viscosity grades, which are essential in the development of solvent-free and high-solids formulations, and which have low- or even zero-VOC content, according to Vencorex. The line also includes some flexible and elastic products for polyurea and polyaspartic coatings.

HDI and IPDI isocyanate monomers, used for light-stable polyurethane dispersions (PUD) and thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) and UV-curable resins.

Vencorex, which is headquartered in France, has three manufacturing sites in Grenoble, France; Freeport, TX; and Rayong, Thailand. Visit Booth 461 in Hall 3 to learn more.

LB Group TiO2 Pigments

LB Group, a Chinese chemical company, will be at ECS to introduce three products from its titanium dioxide pigment (TiO2) lines for coatings and inks: the BILLIONS™ R-996 pigment, BILLIONS™ BLR-895 pigment, and BILLIONS™ TR52.

The BILLIONS™ R-996 pigment is a sulfate-process titanium dioxide pigment designed for external and internal architectural coatings that can also be used for industrial and powder coatings. The BILLIONS™ BLR-895 pigment is a chloride-process titanium dioxide pigment that can produce a white hue with a blue undertone in external and internal architectural coatings. The BILLIONS™ TR52 pigment is a sulfate-process titanium dioxide pigment designed for printing inks.

Visit LB Group at Booth 5-465 in Hall 5.

IFF Additives, Thickeners, and Binders

New York-based IFF, a chemicals manufacturer, will be at ECS to talk about several of their products.

Lattice® NTC Colloidal Microcrystalline Cellulose is a functional, biodegradable fiber that is designed to improve formulation stability with low viscosity.

WALSRODER™ Nitrocellulose (NC) is IFF’s brand of printing inks, wood coatings, and varnishes. Products in the NC line are free-flowing and include an automated emptying device to enable a short emptying time (15–25 seconds per drum) and eliminate the need to manually lift a drum, according to IFF.

POLYOX™ Polyethylene Oxide is a water-soluble thickener, binder, film-forming polymer that is designed to improve adhesion.

ETHOCEL™ Ethylcellulose is a thickener and binder for solvent-based paints, wood coatings, and printing inks.

TEXTURECEL™ Carboxymethylcellulose is a thickener and binder in water-based coatings and ink formulations. The company says that the product offers thickening and rheology modification properties and is a natural alternative to synthetic polymers.

METHOCEL™ Cellulose Ethers are a key formulation component in paint removers and are soluble in water and many organic solvents.
