Tinting for Wood FinishesLineup of chess pawns depicting the various array of Hostatint SA colors.

The Heubach Group, a provider of comprehensive color solutions, has launched their latest advanced pigment preparations for luxurious wood finishes as a solution for tinting natural wood stains and oils that are derived from oils such as linseed.

Hostatint SA preparations, according to the company, are safe and sustainable and thus do not require special labeling.

These preparations were designed with low viscosity, advanced sedimentation behavior, high tinting strength, and consistent quality. They are intended to be easy to handle, restrict migration into waterborne or solventborne topcoats, and dry faster than traditional dyes do.

Nanocoatings

Specialty Coating Systems (SCS) has announced a new coating line within its service portfolio PlasmaGuard™ conformal coatings.

PlasmaGuard nanocoatings are applied through a plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition process (PECVD), and the company says that they were designed to be environmentally friendly, halogen-free, and provide splash-proof and waterproof barrier protection to various electronics components and devices.

Catalytic Gel Ovens

Scaled schematic of WolfRayet Galaxy Lines.WolfRayet has launched a new range of catalytic gel ovens designed to deliver a faster and more efficient and effective powder coating process.

WolfRayet says that these catalytic gel ovens have a very small operational footprint and were developed to deliver a high-tech, low operating cost solution for improving existing convection curing.

A longwave IR catalytic gel oven directly heats the powder causing it to gel or fuse. This process can be especially useful for those using low temperature cure powders and both textured and higher temp powders. After gelling, the powder cannot be blown off in the convection oven, which eliminates any chance of cross contamination, according to the company.

Tnemec Company, Inc. has announced the launch of Series 975 Aerolon, a fluid-applied insulation coating system.

Unlike Series 971, which is based on aerogel particles, Series 975 contains an advanced porous material for low thermal conductivity. Series 975 provides good long-term insulation and corrosion protection, according to Tnemec.

Other features and benefits of Series 975 Aerolon include high hydrophobicity, heat and mechanical stability, low volatile organic compounds (VOCs), low odor, and noncombustibility.

“Series 975 Aerolon is the ideal solution for insulating pipes, valves, tanks, structural steel, or other substates where thermal improvement or personnel protection is imperative,” said Andy Hoffman, Director of Insulation and Specialty Products at Tnemec.

Digital Thermo-Hygrometer

Paul N. Gardner USA has launched the Indoor/Outdoor Digital Thermo Hygrometer, which is a multifunctional humidity thermometer that can display temperature (in Celsius and Fahrenheit), humidity, and time simultaneously.

It is used to measure indoor temperature and humidity, as well as outdoor temperature with the included 3’ temperature probe and a range of -10–50 ℃. The memory function can record and display a record of the max and min measuring values for these parameters over a specific time period. The clock has two options for the LCD display: 12-hour or 24-hour with an alarm and calendar. It runs on AAA batteries and can be hung on a wall or placed on the countertop with the self-standing support.

Software Update for Non-Contact Coating Thickness Measurement

Swiss-based AG has released a software update for the Advanced Thermal Optics-based handheld device for non-contact coating thickness measurement.

The software update enables a measuring process that is three times faster than its predecessor, so that measurements can be performed on moving powder coated parts every few seconds, according to the company.

Statistically, the deviation in measurements at the same spots is now less than one percent. Applications which are used frequently can now be assigned as favorites, which simplifies the use of the measuring gauge. In addition, the order of the applications can be individually adjusted via the browser interface.

Paul N. Gardner (GARDCO) USA has announced a customizable, wallet-sized tool that can measure wet film thickness.

The gauges measure 2-1/4″ x 3-1/4″ x .034″ and are made of solid aluminum stock. This product has measurement scales in both mils and microns. It can also be used and kept as a record of the wet paint thickness taken or cleaned in solvents and reused. According to the company, they meet ASTM D4414 “Standard Practice for Measurement of Wet Film Thickness of Organic Coatings by Notched Gauges.”  When ordered with certification, they comply with ANSI/NCSL Z540-1 as applicable.

The company also offers customization for these gauges. These options include design options of screen-printing or digital photographs; a company logo, contact information, slogan, photo, and directions for use; multiple languages, color matching, and custom scales. Full color proofs and quantity discounts are available. Gardco offers design and layout services as well.
