New Color-shifting Technology for Automotive Finishes

House of Kolor® has introduced a color-shifting technology called the New Kameleon FX packs. The packs create an instantaneous shift in color without a gray area or mottling in between colors. According to the company, which is part of Sherwin-Williams, the packs are part of the Shirim2 paint system and contain pearls tightly controlled in thickness, creating uniquely clean effects when applied in layers over black paint. In addition, the company is releasing older colors re-engineered with the new technology: Red to Gold, Green to Purple, Cyan to Purple, and Blue to Red. The packs are designed for painters from beginners to pros. For more information, visit houseofkolor.com.

New Coating for Offshore Use

WEG has developed WrapX®, a coating for use in highly corrosive environments, that the company says provides greater durability to assets and increases the lifespan by up to four times compared to current technologies.

The WrapX® line uses high-performance elastomeric coatings designed to  extend the integrity of the asset. In the case of valve and flange maintenance, which require constant interventions, the products can be easily removed and reapplied.

The application was developed with the support of the Materials & Corrosion Technologies department of Centro de Pesquisas Leopoldo Américo Miguez de Mello known as Cenpes, Petrobras’ research center  that encourages technology development in the country by fostering initiatives focused on innovation and sustainability.

Coating estimation software

Hempel has launched HEET Dynamic, a new coating software designed to make intumescent coating estimations on steel sections quick, easy, and accurate for structural engineers and estimators. Using in-built calculators for automated thickness and volume calculations, HEET Dynamic features a simple copy-and-paste functionality to give the user full control.

According to the company, HEET Dynamic offers up to 10 times faster calculations, without consulting third-party engineering services or PFP (passive fire protection) coating providers. The company says it is also designed to automatically perform volume calculations with 100% estimation accuracy to detail the intumescent coating required for a project. In accordance with location and design codes, calculations are based on steel profiles, fire ratings, and fire-testing standards.

Waterborne Wood Coating

Sherwin-Williams has introduced SHER-WOOD® Environmentally Adaptive (EA) Hydroplus™ technology, a waterborne wood coating designed to be applied across a wide spectrum of environmental conditions without the performance trade-offs typically associated with waterborne coatings.

Developed for manufacturers of kitchen cabinets, furniture, and building projects, the new coating is a self-sealing, water-reducible acrylic system available in both clear and pigmented finishes. With performance characteristics and dry properties that the company says rivals its solventborne counterparts, the wood coating is designed to provide film hardness and chemical resistance.

Controlled Containment System

HEMCO has developed a Controlled Containment System (CCS) designed to contain and control airborne particulate to and from sampling procedures. According to the company, the CCS provides enclosures for safe dispensing of powders to meet COSSH and GPM requirements and is designed to eliminate potential hazardous vapors or particulate where recirculation is not an option.

On the front of the unit is a clear vinyl-strip curtain that allows easy access to move pallets or drums in and out. An air-gap underneath the vinyl-strip curtain ensures an inward flow of air. The CCS features HEPA-filtered air supplies and HEPA-filtered exhaust air to ensure a work zone free of contamination.
