Low-Temperature Cure Electrocoats for Automotive Manufacturers
PPG has announced the launch of PPG ENVIRO-PRIME® EPIC 200R coatings, a suite of electrocoat (e-coat) products that cure at low temperatures. PPG says that the products use less energy and reduce CO2 emissions at manufacturing facilities.
Conventional e-coats typically require higher oven temperatures to cure over thicker substrates and complex assemblies, resulting in uneven appearance and variations in color. PPG says the Enviro-Prime EPIC 200R platform ensures well-cured films at lower baking temperatures, providing a more sustainable solution without sacrificing manufacturing throughput or coating performance.

Level Switches for Packed Powder

Level switches for packed powders
Dynatrol® has released the CL-10 G Series level detectors, which are designed to handle precipitated and fine, lightweight chemical powders, such as powder coatings, pigments, and colorants.
Dynatrol® Level Detectors are built for dusty environments, and specialized units can be used with temperatures in excess of 300 °F. They are used for high level overfill protection or monitoring low and intermediate points. The level detectors rely on mechanical oscillations to determine if the probe is covered or uncovered. Signals from the detectors operate a single pole double throw relay within the control unit, and the relay contacts can be used to actuate alarms, indicator lights, or process control equipment. They are approved for Class I, Groups C and D; Class II, Groups E, F, and G; and Class III services.

High-White Pigment
U.S. Silica Holdings has launched EverWhite® Pigment, a newly engineered high-white pigment for coatings, building products, and other applications. The company says the product can be used to partially replace or complement other inorganic white pigments like titanium dioxide (TiO2) and aluminum trihydrate (ATH).
According to U.S. Silica, EverWhite® Pigment’s advantages include its hardness and durability, which mirror the functionality of high-performing pigments like TiO2; and its bright-white and consistent color formulations. It is also domestically sourced. Customer applications include quartz countertops, cementitious products, fillers for plastics, coating formulations, and numerous building products.

Slip and Defoamer Additive for Radiation-Curing Inks and Coatings
Evonik’s Coating Additives business line has expanded its TEGO® Rad range of tailored silicone acrylates with a new crosslinkable defoaming slip additive.
The TEGO® Rad 2550 is a clear, low-viscosity liquid that is designed to reduce static and dynamic surface tension in both conventional UV- and LED-cured formulations.
Evonik says that this product’s key attributes include low coefficient of friction (COF), high scratch resistance, good defoaming, and the ability to create hydrophobic surfaces. The company says its unique property profile makes the additive suitable for the formulation of matte coatings, pigmented inks, and roller-applied wood topcoats.
The additives in the TEGO line for radiation-curing inks and coatings can improve the flow and leveling and optical appearance, prevent cratering, and enable formulators to create products with the desired level of slip and flow. Choosing TEGO® Rad products with a higher or lower number will result in a different level of slip and compatibility.

Soluble Salt Tester

Soluble salt tester
Paul N. Gardner has introduced the Positector® SST Soluble Salt Tester for metal surfaces.
The Positector® SST Soluble Salt Tester measures the concentration of soluble salts (salt contamination) on metal surfaces in accordance with ISO 8502-6, 8502-9. The gage also features an onscreen interface that guides users through the Bresle test method. The automatic storage of a background (blank) measurement comes in handy when performing multiple tests. The unit displays test duration, sample temperature, conductivity (µS/cm), and surface density (mg/m2 or µg/cm2).
Gardco says that this product is resistant to solvents, acid, oil, water, and dust and is waterproof. It also enables automatic temperature normalization and sample temperature reporting, according to the company. Moreover, the PosiTector body accepts all PosiTector SST, 6000 III, 200, RTR, SPG, DPM, SHD, and UTG probes, which enables it to easily convert from a soluble salt tester to a coating thickness gage, surface profile gage, dew point meter, Shore hardness durometer, or ultrasonic wall thickness gage.

Channeled Resources Expands Capabilities with Coater Installation
Channeled Resources Group (CRG), a manufacturer of blank shipping labels and release liner and supplier of laminated papers and films, has announced the installation of a new coater at its Marathon, WI, facility.
The new 70-inch coater, manufactured by SAM, will complement the existing 65-inch coater in Marathon. The company also has two coaters—a 40-inch and a 22-inch narrow-width—at its Toronto location. CRG expects that, once fully commissioned, the new coater will offer higher run speeds, increase efficiencies, more than double capacity, and enable CRG to expand its product portfolio.
