PPG announced the opening of an automotive coatings color creation studio at the PPG Global Coatings Innovation Center in Tianjin, China. According to PPG, the studio, which is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment to ensure high-precision color presentation and immersive experiences for clients as well as the latest software tools to enhance color design support, enables brands to quickly respond to market trends and strengthen product competitiveness.
“The opening marks not only a significant strategic move for PPG in the Chinese market, but also a milestone in its deeper engagement with the new energy vehicle (NEV) sector,” said Cindy Li, PPG senior color styling manager, Asia Pacific, Automotive OEM Coatings. “As a global leader in coatings and color solutions, PPG reaffirms its long-term commitment to China by offering innovative, customized, and sustainable color solutions that help Chinese automotive brands achieve global success.”
In other company news, PPG announced the startup of a waterborne automotive coatings manufacturing plant in Samut Prakan, Thailand. The facility will enhance PPG’s local production capacity of waterborne basecoats and primers and help meet rising demand for sustainably advantaged coatings from automotive companies in Southeast Asia.
With a production capacity of 2,000 tons annually, the plant includes an automated spray application center that will enhance PPG’s service capabilities, improving its competitiveness in the global automotive coatings industry.

With the Thai government’s support for electric vehicles presenting vast opportunities for global automakers, including Chinese OEMs, we saw the need to expand our operations,” said Alisha Bellezza, PPG senior vice president, Automotive OEM Coatings. “This opening is a significant milestone, underscoring PPG’s commitment to sustainability and highlighting its strategic focus on the Southeast Asian market.”
